Access the recent performance of the current metro councilperson, and, if elected, would you keep it going in the same direction or change course?
I like some of the ideals and goals that the present councilman has achieved and is trying to accomplish with a limited budget. I would try to add to what he has already started and start to pave the way for me to accomplish some of my goals and ideals.

now, and what would you do to fill that need?
The primary issue is removing homeless individuals from the streets, ensuring affordable housing, promoting fresh food stores, and fostering safe streets through improved government and citizen-led initiatives.

What is the number one crime-related issue that needs an immediate plan of action from the next metro council member elected to your district?
Getting all the illegal guns off the streets and out of the hands of our youth.

What are your top three legislative priorities if elected?
Protect our seniors with social security and Medicare. A better education for pre-k through 12th grade. Having more options for helping the homeless get shelter.

Find better ways to generate local revenue. Support local businesses and events. Create good-paying job opportunities.

Attend local events, buy local, and spread the word through social media. To encourage job creation. Promote training and support entrepreneurs and workers. Give grants and loans to small businesses.

Vote against any bad legislation that would try to deny or take away one’s healthcare or education. Speak out and go against any bills that would be detrimental to my citizens when it comes to healthcare or education.

Why are you the best person for the job?
I was born and raised in the California area and still live there today in my childhood home. I know and have lived the struggles in my community since being raised by my grandparents. I understand the difficulties that my neighbors are facing. Poverty, boarded-up houses, and even dumping grounds for trash and waste. I will be a voice and a fighter for change.

I am not some outsider to the community who hasn’t lived the everyday life experiences of growing up in the West End. I know what my community has been lacking for years, and I want to be that voice to make a difference.

Holding monthly meetings with all constituents in my district. Create and keep an open line of communication with my district. Be accessible when time permits for all constituents.

What job experience do you have?
First, I am pro union. I worked at the Courier Journal for over 17 years. The last 5 years, I was the union steward and was a lead negotiator for our last contract, Union GCIU Local 619M. I worked 4 years at General Electric, and out of those 4 years, I was also a union steward (IUE-CWA 83761). I now work for RCS Transportation, Union Local 89.

How have you dealt with challenges in past positions?
I always took my pledge to put my workers first seriously. I fought hard for the minimum discipline when a worker got a write up. I was a strong advocate for back pay when a worker was dismissed without cause or treated unfairly. I was able to get workers jobs back through negotiations. I was a big advocate for workers’ rights.

It taught me to respect and represent everybody fairly. To treat everybody equally, regardless of whether your views are different, or you disagree. Never hold any grudges; we can all agree to disagree.
